Doubleday Before the WPA

Many activities took place on Doubleday Field prior to the WPA renovation project. Tennis courts and a playground stood onsite for all to enjoy. The field sprang to life for football games, pageants, performances and special events, bringing thousands of people to the Village. During the 1920s and 1930s, Doubleday Field served as a center for community events and helped Cooperstown become a lively and active vacation and tourist destination.
